A city noted for its cultural diversity, creativity, entrepreneurialism, Los Angeles has been the busiest trade centre in the United States for over a decade. But can it be considered the de facto capital of the Pacific Rim, a region that encompasses significant portions of four continents, including the northern, southern, eastern, and western hemispheres? APRU co-founder Steven B. Sample certainly thinks so. In a speech to the Los Angeles World Affairs Council, Dr Sample, who has served for 18 years as President of the University of Southern California, highlights the city’s strengths in business, global communications, artistic creativity and intellectual capital as well as its unprecedented ethnic and cultural diversity.
