August 6, 2009 - Participants at the recently-held 10th APRU Doctoral Students Conference (DSC) voted four new members to the executive committee of the APRU Doctoral Students Network (APRU DSN).
Polls held during the DSC, which was hosted by Kyoto University from July 6-10, 2009, resulted in the election of Claire Correu Nettleton from the University of Southern California, Yok Yee Chan from the University of Auckland, Sohail Ahmad from Seoul National University and Jeet Bahadur Sapkota from Waseda University. They will serve as Directors on the Ex-Co.
Three adjunct members were also elected: Hongping Xia from the University of Hong Kong, Seshadri N. Tirunillai from the University of Southern California and Shiva Raj Adhikari from Chulalongkorn University.
Adjunct members are usually elected for their specific skill sets and may sometimes also fill vacancies in any of the Director positions.
The Executive Committee of the APRU DSN operates under the leadership of the Chairperson who acts as the official representative of the organization. Other positions in the committee include Vice Chairperson, Secretary, Director of Research and Development, Director of Information Management, Director of Communications, Director of Programs and Publications, and Director of Special Projects.
The exact portfolios that the newly-elected members will hold on the Ex-Co will be decided by an internal election at the next Ex-Co meeting scheduled to be held in August 2009.
