Two new Steering Committee members elected at 13th APRU Annual Presidents Meeting
August 5, 2009 - University leaders from the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) voted NUS President Chorh Chuan Tan and Kyoto University President Hiroshi Matsumoto to the APRU Steering Committee at the 13th APRU Annual Presidents Meeting hosted by the California Institute of Technology from June 28-30, 2009. Both will serve two-year renewable terms.
A renal physician by training, Professor Tan has been a key leader in Singapore’s Biomedical Sciences Initiative since its inception in 2000. President Tan has also served as an ex-officio non-voting member of the APRU steering committee from the time he assumed leadership of NUS in December 2008.
President Matsumoto was appointed to lead Kyoto University in October 2008 and has served in many leadership positions, including those in the field of space radio science. President Matsumoto was elected to the Asia (Japan) seat on the steering committee.
