7th Senior Staff Meeting at Keio University's Hiyoshi Campus in Yokohama
The APRU Senior Staff Forum 2010 at the 7th SSM centered on the theme of “Riding the Demography Wave: How to Adapt, Survive and Prosper in a Changing Higher Education Environment in the Pacific Rim”. 64 participants from 35 APRU member universities discussed issues relating to rapid population aging and shifting demographic trends, their impact on the higher education sector, and how universities can adapt to these changes in a series of panel discussions and breakout sessions.
Senior Staff share on the impact of demography trends on higher education, and best practices and models for collaborative research, internationalization and outreach of their respective universities at breakout discussions.
Academics and experts provided insights and shared perspectives on anti-aging and approaches to human longevity, transnational higher education in Asia Pacific, economic and social implications of demographic trends in relation to the academic sector, and strategies to adapt to the changing education market.
President Atsushi Seike of Keio University gave a keynote speech that highlighted the contribution of universities to improve global sustainability and collaboration among APRU member universities. President Seike also spoke on the aging population in Japan and the necessary institutional reforms to establish a life-long active society.

Updates on upcoming APRU activities were presented by Senior Staff of respective host universities. In the tradition of previous SSMs, this year’s meeting concluded with an ALOUD Forum where Senior Staff exchanged information on current or future innovative projects and developments in their universities.
