The 15th Annual Presidents Meeting (APM) was hosted by Tsinghua University from April 22 to 24, 2011 in Beijing, China. Together with the APM, Tsinghua University also hosted a Global Summit of University Presidents (GSUP) which included presidents and chancellors from non-APRU universities.
The GSUP and APM were a part of Tsinghua University’s 100th anniversary celebrations which was attended by more than 300 academic leaders and delegates from leading universities and academic institutions across the globe including 34 APRU member universities. Of these member universities, 29 APRU presidents together with 75 senior staff and delegates attended the combined event.
Participants were welcomed warmly by Tsinghua University President Gu Binglin. On behalf of the consortium, APRU Chairman and University of California, Santa Barbara Chancellor Henry T. Yang congratulated Tsinghua University on its centennial year and expressed APRU’s appreciation for the university’s hosting of the 15th APM.
April 23: Keynote and University Leaders Speeches
Speeches and discussions centered on the theme, “Global Socioeconomic Development and Higher Education” which provided presidents the opportunity to assess factors critical to the future development of universities and examine the linkage between higher education and socio-economic development. In addition to university presidents and academic leaders, notable Chinese government officials addressed delegates at the event.

April 24: Centennial Celebration Ceremony and APRU Business Meeting
Top Chinese leaders and government officials including distinguished alumni, President Hu Jintao attended Tsinghua University’s Centennial Celebration Ceremony at the Great Hall of the People, the political hub of Beijing.
Discussions at the APRU Business Meeting included a report on past and upcoming APRU activities, APRU’s annual finances, the Steering Committee electoral process, and an invitation to APM 2012 to be hosted by University of Oregon.
Appointment of new APRU Secretary General
At the Business Meeting, Chancellor Yang announced the appointment of Dr Christopher Tremewan, Vice-President/Pro Vice-Chancellor (International), University of Auckland as APRU’s next Secretary General with effect from June 7, 2011.
