The leaders of APRU member universities meet annually to interact on issues relating to higher education as well as the strategic direction of APRU. These discussion forums provide international platforms facilitating dialogue and exchange amongst universities, and towards developing and reviewing the overall direction and implementation of APRU’s policies and initiatives.
The centerpiece of APRU’s calendar of events is the Annual Presidents Meeting. At this meeting, the presidents address issues relating to APRU’s governance and strategy and matters of strategic importance to research universities.

APRU's 13th APM included a forum based on the theme “Grappling with global challenges: How universities can provide leadership and strategies to solve the problems of the 21st century”. A total of 24 presidents and 64 senior staff and delegates from 33 APRU member institutions discussed topics such as “Economics and New Leadership: What do we expect from universities?” and “The Global Environment for Research” and interacted on contemporary issues relating to the future of higher education. At the Presidents Open Forum, APRU Presidents presented the challenges they faced in leading their universities, and some of the strategies they have adopted in dealing with them. Invited speakers to the 3-day event in Pasadena included distinguished Caltech faculty members like Nobel Laureate Ahmed Zewail (Linus Pauling Professor of Chemistry) and industry experts such as Vinod Khosla (founder, Khosla Ventures & co-founder, Sun Microsystems), and Charles M. Vest (President, National Academy of Engineering & President Emeritus, Massachusetts Institute of Technology). More...
